Medical simulation is a modern training method that uses various teaching techniques complementary to the classical model in combination with equipment, tools, and innovative technologies to create an environment and practice scenarios similar to reality. It allows health professionals such as doctors and nurses, but also medical students, to practice and improve their clinical skills, manual skills, as well as communication, coordination, and decision-making skills, stimulating work in teams. With advances in medical technology and the increasing complexity of healthcare systems, simulation centres provide a safe and controlled environment for improving skills and knowledge. They serve as a bridge between theoretical learning and practical patient application, allowing various techniques to be practiced and perfected without endangering real patients.

The Carol Davila University of Medicine and Pharmacy has been carrying out medical simulation activities since 2020, in order to establish the Medical Simulation Department in 2021, within the Innovation and e-Health Service, and in 2022 to inaugurate the Medical Simulation Centre, from Thomas Masaryk str., no. 19.

The Medical Simulation Centre is structured on 6 levels with an area of 2,000 square metres, includes 17 theory and practice rooms, 2 locker rooms, and is equipped with 35 advanced, high-fidelity simulators, along with many other basic simulators, equipment, and medical furniture.

In the 2 years since the inauguration of the Medical Simulation Center, 897 workshops were held, with the participation of 15,598 students — students from general medicine, general medical assistance, dentistry, and pharmacy, as well as resident doctors and teaching staff of UMPCD. If we extend the statistics to the level of 4 years, from the first courses through medical simulation, then the total number of activities is 1,141, with 19,958 participants (end of academic year 2023–2024).
