CVDLINK — A Federated Data Platform for Cardiovascular Disease
CVDLINK connects clinical, genetic and real-world data sources through an EU-wide federated platform to support diagnosis, risk assessment and personalised treatment of cardiovascular disease — responsible each year, across the EU, for over 6 million new cases and 1.8 million deaths.
The problem
Existing clinical, genetic and real-world data sources are fragmented, and using them to prevent and manage cardiovascular disease remains limited by challenges around availability, governance and interoperability.
What we do
The project builds a privacy-centred federated platform (PaaS) that securely connects and integrates existing data, alongside a set of AI-based precision-medicine tools for diagnosis, risk stratification and treatment. Seven distinct cardiovascular conditions will be examined using retrospective datasets, cohort studies and biobanks from 7 regions, and the resulting tools will be validated prospectively in 5 countries.
Impact
CVDLINK aims to establish a paradigm for effectively leveraging heterogeneous data sources to build AI-based tools, benefiting health systems, patients, industry and EU citizens, backed by a set of best practices and awareness campaigns to support wide-scale adoption.
