FUTUREMED — Practice Bases for the Medicine of the Future
CieH's third consecutive FDI project further developed its existing practice bases and added a Medical and Health Humanities component, in collaboration with the University of Bucharest and UNATC.
The problem
The traditional medical curriculum offers few opportunities to practise critical thinking, doctor-patient communication and an interdisciplinary understanding of medical practice.
What we do
The project ran 16 medical-simulation workshops across 5 new specialties, 5 Extended Reality workshops in neurosurgery, acquired 6 new 3D printers and bioprinters, and held 12 Medical and Health Humanities activities — with UNATC actors playing difficult-patient roles — attended by 485 faculty, professionals and students.
Impact
FUTUREMED introduced the Medical and Health Humanities concept at UMFCD and, through its collaboration with the University of Bucharest and UNATC, validated an interdisciplinary approach unique in Romanian medical education.
