NextMEd — Developing and Integrating Emerging Technologies for Advanced Medical Education and Research
A project funded through the Institutional Development Fund (CNFIS-FDI-2025-F-0694), implemented by the Medical Simulation Hub and the e-Health, Big Data & AI Hub, dedicated to integrating emerging technologies and medical simulation into the training of students and medical staff.
The problem
Integrating emerging technologies — advanced simulation, data analysis, artificial intelligence — into medical education requires dedicated infrastructure, standardised protocols and specific training, elements that were not yet sufficiently developed at the university.
What we do
The Medical Simulation Hub ran 57 training workshops using integrated standardised-patient scenarios and obstetric-emergency management, attended by 792 students and resident doctors. The e-Health, Big Data & AI Hub built the infrastructure for analysing clinical and genomic data, ran 11 courses and 12 workshops with 358 participants, launched two online courses on the eLearning platform, and brought the CIeH Multimedia Lab online, including the "UMFCD Talks — Innovation in Health" podcast series.
Impact
The project fully completed its 2025 specific objectives, strengthening CieH's educational and research infrastructure and extending its digital-communication capacity through the new Multimedia Lab and the unified visual identity adopted for the center.
