Experimental Research Projects — 3D Printing Lab
Four experimental-demonstrative projects developed by the 3D Printing Lab in 2024, each exploring a frontier application of 3D printing in medicine.
The problem
From cardiovascular stents to validating vascular grafts, a number of frontier clinical problems still lack standardised 3D-printing or bioprinting solutions.
What we do
MiniPrint develops 3D-printable microstents for cardiovascular research. Computer Vision and 3D Printing in Analysis of Tissue Histology, together with SMARTBlock, combines computer vision and 3D printing for tissue histology analysis. BIO3DTASC develops biocompatible hydrogels for advanced 3D cell and tissue cultures. INSPECT proposes an innovative approach to TEVAR prosthesis placement, using AI-assisted 3D segmentation and physical validation through 3D-printed reconstructions.
Impact
The four projects demonstrate the lab's capacity to initiate original research on cutting-edge medical topics, beyond its ongoing educational activity.
