The vCare team wishes all readers an exciting and promising 2021 year. Since October 2020, the project has entered the critical living-lab phase where all vCare features are tested in a controlled environment with the active involvement of real patients. Although vaccination has now started in most EU countries, all vCare clinical sites remain deeply impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Fortunately vCare clinical sites in Italy, Romania and Spain and have been able to prepare a safe and adapted environment. It allows the testing to be performed as foreseen. The first reactions and motivation of the patients are truly encouraging.
Why can vCare be so helpful for Romania ?
Cardiovascular mortality is a crucial public health problem in Romania. It is three times higher than in any other state of the European Union. Romanians have a reduced average life expectancy of 8 years in men and 5 years in women compared with the European numbers. Prevention of cardiovascular disease is currently one of the top priorities of the Romanian Ministry of Health. The main causes of hospitalization among the cardiovascular patients are represented by heart failure and ischemic heart disease; There is an annual incidence of 4,7% and respectively 5-7% of the country population.
